Sharon Hill
Community Volunteer Co-ordinator
I have worked with children and families over 20 years in wide range of services. From Children and Family settings to being an Under 8’s Inspector and supporting families in the voluntary sector as a Home-Start Co-ordinator, both in the UK and abroad.
My main highlights is empowering Childminders to become a part of the Quality Assured Network in the London Borough of Barnet which forged a partnership with Barnet colleges in placing students with the QA childminders this was featured in the local news described as “innovative”.
I am driven by a desire to inspire and develop others by bringing the community together as well as assisting each and every Volunteer with effective strategies in making a positive difference and make a real change to the lives of others in the community.

My journey at Flying Start started in April 2019 as a volunteer. I had the privilege of being part of two amazing groups created with the aim to support children with special educational needs.
Unfortunately during the COVID19 pandemic, all face-to-face services were no longer available. However, Flying Start continued to support families in our community and I continued to give my contribution as an interpreter for families in Luton.
Being a volunteer myself for two years gave me the opportunity to learn about our community and its challenges. I learned about levels of disadvantages, health inequalities and marginalized communities. Flying Start works to reduce inequalities for families from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Groups and those facing the highest levels of deprivation and volunteers play a key role to achieve this aim.
I continue to support Flying Start in the role of Volunteer Administrator by developing volunteer opportunities across Flying Start and partners.
